Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire England. His parents were Robert and Susannah Darwin. At the age of eight, Susannah passed away from stomach cancer or a severe ulcer. Robert Darwin was a medical doctor and Susannah was a physician. Charles’s dad wanted Charles to be a doctor, so he transferred him to Edinburgh University from Anglican Shrewsbury School. He gave up medical school after two years, not being able to stand blood or surgery. Then he went to Cambridge University to study theology, the study of the nature of God and religious beliefs.
In 1831, one of his Cambridge professors recommended Charles as a naturalist and companion for Robert FitzRoy on the boat HMS Beagle. Charles immediately accepted and went exploring with the crew. He went to a variety of regions and continents, including the Galapagos Island. He is famous for studying small creatures, finches. Finches are a type of bird that are usually red and orange shades. Charles found finches the mainland of South America and other nearby areas. There were many different types of finches with different shaped beaks in each different area. Their shapes of their beaks changed because of the type of food they ate. This creates the theory, “The Theory of evolution by natural selection.”
The quote Charles Darwin goes by is, “The Survival of the Fittest.” This quote doesn’t mean that only the strong birds survive, it means that whichever animal adapts the best in the environment will evolve. Whatever attributes help the animal adapt in the environment, will also help improve the other attributes to the future ancestors. Charles Darwin’s investigation changed the way people thought, but Charles was not yet ready to share the new theory. This theory can be taken in a very disrespectful way to Christians and other religions, for this theory does not support for the way god was created. God is believed to be created by nothing and no-one, whereas Darwin’s theory would have made God evolved.
Charles had thousands of pages written already, waiting to be published. But Darwin felt afraid that he was the only person who had thought of this theory. However, Alfred Russel Wallace reached out to him and let him know that he had the same theory as Darwin himself. Afraid that Wallace would publish the theory before him and take credit, he and Wallace made a agreement to work together. But instead of waiting for Wallace, he published his theory called, “The Origin of Species.” His book was a big hit, with many by his side. However as expected, many religious people were against the theory.
Although Charles “proved” this theory, the answer on how nothing turns into something still is still mysterious. However, this does give us another theory besides religion to believe in on how we were created.

This was an excellent and well-written report on Charles Darwin. His landmark book, On The Origin of Species, provided a scientific explanation for the similarities and differences in animals. More importantly, it offered a plausible explanation for our existence and evolution. Yet, I still do not understand why dinosaurs are so big. Maybe they just like eating a lot and got fatter and fatter.
